September 21st - Rev. Dr Mariam Spies – Miriam recently graduated from Emmanuel College with her PhD that weaves incarnational theology with disability and crip studies to imagine how crip people serve in ministry. She is an ordained minister in The United Church of Canada. She has previously served as a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches. She uses the language of crip and queer to describe herself. Her sermon will focus on the solidarity of the trinity – and our call to live/act in solidarity.
September 28th - Rev. Mitchell Anderson - Mitchell is the Lead Minister at St. Paul’s United Church in Saskatoon. Mitchell is Dënesułiné and a member of the English River First Nation, holds a women and gender studies degree alongside MBA and Master of Divinity degrees, and operates from a well-rounded view of what strong communities are made of — including recognition of the vital role of business in community economic development. On the Day of Reconciliation he will be speaking to us about reconciliation. Mitchell Anderson will explore an Indigenous perspective on 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. By doing what Jesus does and living the way he teaches, we can become more like Jesus together.
October 5th - Rev. Jennifer Henry - Executive Minister, Organizational Development and Strategy. She will be speaking to us about Belonging based on the recent United Church's General Council initiative : "A Place at the Table".
In addition to its regular services, Fresh Start actively engages with social justice issues. We've hosted impactful events on topics such as Anti-Racism and Truth & Reconciliation, sparking powerful conversations and leading to meaningful, actionable change.
